Kitchens are the most expensive room in the house to remodel. These days everyone is looking for ways to get the most value for their dollar.

In this kitchen, the owner was considering buying a new home with an updated kitchen. She had went through many Parade homes built by Kyle Hunt and Hanson Builders, all of which had contrasting center islands and custom hoods. Schoenfelder Renovations teamed with a cabinet maker to wrap the island in cherry, built a new curved custom hood and installed ceramic tile backsplash. The cost was much less than what new cabinets would have cost and a tiny fraction of the cost of a new home.

We took a 1990's mid range priced home whose kitchen was functional yet boring. We added ceramic tile with accents above the stove. We then removed the cabinets above the stove and replaced it with a custom cherry hood. We considered replacing the center island but our cabinet maker came up with a less expensive alternative. We wrapped the existing island in cherry veneer and replaced the doors with cherry doors. We then changed out all the old brass pulls with darker more modern pulls.

Total cost $3000. Project length 2 weeks!

We got rid of the bland tile around the fireplace and had some fun.
